Fibroblasts are mesenchymal cells derived from the embryonic mesoderm. They have been extensively used for a wide range of cellular and molecular studies. This is mainly because they are one of easiest types of cells to grow in culture, and their durability makes them amenable to a wide variety of manipulations ranging from studies employing gene transfection to microinjection. Fibroblasts within tissues are exposed to a dynamic mechnical environment, which influences the structure integrity of both healthy and healing soft tissue. They secrete a non-rigid extracellular matrix that is rich in type I and/or type III collagen. There is good evidence that fibroblasts in different parts of the body are intrinsically different and display different regulatory functions on surrounding cells. For example, splenic fibroblasts have been shown to regulate the development of NK cells from blood progenitors through an expression of bioactive IL-15. HSF from Gentaur Research Laboratories are isolated from human spleen tissue. HSF are cryopreserved at primary culture and delivered frozen. Each vial contains 5×10^5 cells in 1 ml volume. Depending on the site of origin and physiological status, fibroblasts may exhibit different morphological phenotypes and various functional properties.Gentaur offers a range of Human Fibroblasts produced at Gentaur's cell culture facility. The cells are isolated from normal human juvenile foreskin or adult skin from different locations. In addition, Gentaur offers Fibroblasts from adult lung tissue, aortic adventitial tissue, and villous placental tissue.Shortly after isolation, all Gentaur Human Fibroblasts are cryopreserved at passage 2 (P2) using Gentaur's proprietary, serum-free freezing medium,Cryo-SFM. Each cryo vial contains more than 500,000 viable cells after thawing. Proliferating cell cultures are made from 500,000 cryopreserved cells that have been thawed and cultured for three days at Gentaur.

Monkey Primary Aortic Fibroblasts from Gentaur are isolated from aortic tissue of Cynomolgus Monkey. Monkey Primary Aortic Fibroblasts are grown in T25 tissue culture flasks pre-coated with gelatin-based solution for 0.5 hour and incubated in Gentaur Culture Complete Growth Medium generally for 3-7 days. Cultures are then expanded. Prior to shipping, cells are detached from flasks and immediately cryo-preserved in vials. Each vial contains at least 1x10^6 cells per ml and is delivered frozen.Monkey Primary Aortic Fibroblasts are negative for bacteria, yeast, fungi, and mycoplasma. Cells can be expanded for 3-6 passages at a split ratio of 1:3 under the cell culture conditions specified by Gentaur. Repeated freezing and thawing of cells is not recommended.Standard biochemical procedures performed with cell cultures include the assay of cell to cell interaction, RT-PCR, Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescent staining, flow cytometry or generating cell derivatives for desired research applications.
